A Good Migration Should Be Boring
The best migrations do not feel heroic. They feel planned, tested, coordinated, and uneventful when the switch finally happens.
We help teams fix delivery, scale properly, and build systems that hold up under real pressure.
"We build software to survive contact with reality, audits, scale and edge cases no one planned for. That's the difference between software that ships and software that holds."
Not every team needs more developers. Quite a few need clearer architecture, stronger delivery discipline, and someone senior enough to spot what is really slowing them down.
A focused engagement for teams that need clarity fast.
Good fit for founders, CTOs and product teams where things are moving, but not cleanly.
The goal is simple: get you shipping cleanly again within weeks.
We're always building, testing ideas where the gaps are real.
Alongside client work, we build our own products where we see clear gaps in the market.
Engineering spend is one of the largest line items on the P&L, yet most companies can’t explain it clearly. EngLedger connects to Jira, GitHub and Bitbucket, classifies work in real time, and produces audit-ready outputs that finance can rely on.
We've identified a gap and we're doing the work to prove it out. Industry conversations, feasibility analysis, and early investor alignment are underway. More to come.
We build our own products, and we partner with companies to build theirs. Every project gets a dedicated team, held to the same standards as our own.
We originate ideas, validate them against real market problems, and build them to investment-ready products. Meridian and EngLedger are the first two.
Startups hire us to build their SaaS alongside them. Not a consultancy that advises, a team that ships. You bring the domain. We bring the architecture, delivery, and execution.
Select partnerships. Systems that lasted.
The work here is what happens when the problem matters, and the system has to hold.
Built and scaled a two-sided marketplace from early stage through to acquisition.
Brought in early to architect and deliver what became Australia's largest original art marketplace, facilitating over $50 million in artist sales across 30,000 creators, through to acquisition.
A multi-tenant SaaS platform powering thousands of Australian businesses.
Nimbo is a fully multi-tenant website and ecommerce platform used by thousands of Australian businesses, and still in active use today, with over $6 million in merchant sales processed through the platform so far.
A multi-brand services platform operating across six Australian cities. With a custom CRM, supplier coordination, and booking systems underpinning all of it.
We re-platformed the entire operation onto a modern framework without downtime, and continue to extend it as the business grows.
Ongoing advisory at leadership level, covering architecture, security, framework direction, and engineering best practices. No code, just the decisions that keep the platform secure, scalable, and on track.
Billcue handles invoicing, payments, and reporting for thousands of small businesses, used in day-to-day operations where reliability matters.
GIS systems are everywhere in utilities infrastructure, but moving data between them has always been difficult. Data Dragon solved that.
Built as the flagship product of Geoactive IT, it translates, transforms, and publishes spatial data across major GIS formats including ESRI, Smallworld, PostGIS, and more. It handles coordinate transformations, dataset merging, filtering, and automated publishing via APIs, batch processing, and scheduled jobs.
It went from concept to fivefold revenue growth in its first year, with contracts across major utility operators in Australia and the United States. Built for environments where data is critical, formats are legacy, and nothing gets approved easily.
Built by people who’ve done this before, and have fixed what usually breaks.
Decades of building behind us, backed by engineers, designers, and domain experts who've been through it before. The right people, when it matters.
Simon started his career in the Royal Australian Navy as an Electronics Technician, where systems either worked under pressure or they didn't. That mindset has shaped everything since. He co-founded Geoactive IT in 2014 and led it as CIO and Director, building Data Dragon, a spatial data platform used across utilities in Australia and the United States, achieving fivefold revenue growth in its first year.
He later moved into executive roles including VP Engineering at TALi Health and CTO at Health Metrics, leading technology strategy for regulated healthcare platforms and overseeing security, governance, and risk. He has also served on the board of a major public health provider.
At Buildlight Labs, he brings that experience to building and guiding products that need to work when it matters.
Kads has spent over 25 years building software across startups that needed to move fast and enterprises where failure wasn’t an option. He has founded multiple ventures, including Nimbo, a multi-tenant SaaS platform used by thousands of Australian businesses, processing millions in transactions.
His work spans architecture, product, and engineering; taking ideas from zero to systems that hold up in production. He has built and operated platforms in ecommerce, healthcare, and data-heavy environments where reliability, scale, and correctness are not optional.
Kads serves on an external research advisory board at Bond University. At Buildlight Labs, he focuses on building products and working with companies that need to get it right.
"Our platform isn't simple, three brands, six cities, a bespoke CRM, and a supplier network that all has to work together. Buildlight Labs architected and delivered a full migration to a modern framework while keeping everything running. No drama, no downtime, no hand-holding required from my end. When you find a team that treats your business problems as seriously as you do, you don't let them go."
"When you're running a SaaS, the decisions that hurt you most are the ones you didn't realise were risky. Buildlight Labs has been our trusted advisor for security, framework direction, engineering best practices, risk assessments. They think about user impact, not just the technical answer. That kind of senior perspective, without the overhead of a full-time hire, is genuinely hard to find."
The best migrations do not feel heroic. They feel planned, tested, coordinated, and uneventful when the switch finally happens.
A software rewrite often fails long before development starts because the business has not understood what the old system really does.
Technical debt sounds like an engineering problem. In reality, it often shows up as delivery drag, support cost, client risk, and lost business confidence.
